GT RGBW Chasing Cross Halos (5V) | Custom Addressable Lighting

The GT RGBW Chasing Hex Halos fit 80mm projector housings at 86mm actual diameter — the same slot as a standard 80mm round halo — making them a straightforward swap for builders who want a more contemporary profile. The six-sided silhouette is a natural fit for modern Euro-style builds and pairs well with aggressive projector shroud designs. Shares the same 5V SK6812RGBW chip platform as our flagship strips, so white output, colour blending, and Blueghozt/SP105E compatibility are identical across the entire GT chasing lineup.

Technical Superiority & Upgrades

  • Daisy-Chain Architecture: Upgraded to feature both an input and an output connection. Simply daisy-chain your halos and strips together so only a single wire needs to exit the headlight housing.
  • Dedicated 5V Power: These halos operate strictly on a 5V architecture. They must be powered using a 5V step-down transformer (sold separately).

Reliability Features

  • Heat Sensitivity: Addressable LEDs are sensitive to extreme temperatures. Because projector bulbs can exceed 150°C, we recommend wiring the halos to turn off when your low beams are active to ensure maximum product life.
  • Power Management: All addressable LEDs have a small standby power drain even when powered off. If the vehicle sits for more than 7 days, installing a master kill switch on the 12V+ line is recommended.

Physical Characteristics & Fitment

  • Dimensions: As selected.
  • Fitment Profile: Based off a chopped off Hexagon, they fit like an 80mm round halo, and are 6mm wide, 3mm thick. Designed to work perfectly with oem bezels or aftermarket projector shrouds.

Installation & Compatibility

  • Sold in Pairs: Each order includes two (2) chasing halos.
  • Voltage Requirement: Strict 5V DC operation. Connecting these directly to a 12V source will cause immediate failure.
  • Controller Integration: Seamlessly pairs with Blueghozt (recommended) and SP105E Bluetooth controllers. The RGB controller draws its power directly from the 5V transformer, requiring no secondary power wiring.
  • Required Maintenance: All JST connections must be packed with dielectric grease and sealed with heat-shrink to prevent corrosion. Corroded connections draw excess power and will void your warranty.

Warranty

  • PLEASE READ OUR FULL WARRANTY,SHIPPING,FAQ PAGE HERE
  • The product comes with a 1-year warranty.
  • Customers may be required to return the product for it to be inspected before any refund or replacement is issued.
  • The customer may be responsible for shipping (both ways)
  • To begin the warranty process, respond to your order confirmation e-mail.

Warranty Exclusion

  • Halos installed around halogen bulbs (EXAMPLE PIC) will NOT be warrantied. Halos MUST be installed in front of reflectors/projectors on the front bezel or shroud.
  • Halo JST connections not protected with dielectric grease & heat shrink will corrode causing excess power draw. Corrosion will deny your warranty.

People Also Ask

  • Q: Can I use 12V power on these halos?
    • A: No, these are strictly 5V DC. Connecting them to a 12V source will cause immediate hardware failure.
  • Q: How do I prevent data-line noise or flickering?
    • A: We recommend our GT Inline Capacitors and using high-quality shielded data wires for runs over 3 feet.
  • Q: Can your RGBW Chasing Halos be cut/trimmed?
    • A: Yes, if you’re very careful with very sharp snips, you can cut out a section of the halo. Ensure you cut on the correct side of the input wire. No warranty if cut.
  • Q: Are these road legal?
    • A: In Canada and the US, white DRL and amber turn signals are road legal. These halos include a dedicated white chip capable of producing a legal white DRL output. Always verify your local regulations, as installation configuration determines compliance — not the product itself.
  • Q: What LED sorting do your Chasing LED products use?
    • A: All our Chasing LED products use a GRBW LED sorting structure to ensure high compatibility, even with other brands.
  • Q: How bright are GT RGBW Chasing LEDs?
    • A: Brightness varies by installation. When mounted behind OEM acrylic diffusers, both 5V and 12V variants produce strong, even output. In direct sunlight without a diffuser, 5V strips may appear dim — the 12V UCS2904 rigid strips are the better choice for exposed, high-ambient-light installs.
  • Q: What’s the expected lifespan?
    • A: Exceptionally long under normal conditions. We ship complete custom headlight builds worldwide using these LEDs and trust them for long-term daily driver use. The most common causes of early failure are heat exposure from halogen bulbs or corroded JST connections — both preventable with proper installation.

Soldering Guide

Parts/Equipment

  1. A proper soldering station with temperature control is a must, we use this one by X-Tronic, available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B086624LXB/
    • The “5 Extra Tips” is what we’re after, although they can be bought separately. We use the Bevel Tip as its larger surface area allows for quicker heat transfer.

    • Ensure you also have soldering tip cleaner with rosin flux and continuously clean the tip when in use.
  1. Good solder (Bad solder will ruin your day). We use 2 different thickness solder. – Use max temp of 260c
    1. MG Chemicals Sn63/Pb37 (No 4865-227g) – 0.032″ Diameter, 22 Gauge, 2.2% Flux – https://a.co/d/09czWki
      • We use this to “prep” a pad by tinning it (pre-apply a small amount of solder), to easily accept a connecting wire or in our case a piece of 16 gauge solder.
    2. MG Chemicals Sn60/Pb40 (No 4898-227g) – 0.065″ Diameter, 16 Gauge – 2.2% Flux – https://a.co/d/9K4pctl
      • We use this to connect cut led strips where the distance is very small (under 1/2″)
      •  Warning: These both contain lead (Pb). It is important to use in a well-ventilated area at worst, with a forced air filter ideally
  2. Shoe Goo (Yes really) – https://a.co/d/e4qL7br
    • Once you’ve tested all your connection (connect to controller, power on, test all colours), apply a small amount to all connections, especially those bridging any sort of gap to help with vibration. Let cure fully. This is also removable later if necessary for repair.

In our product picture above, you can see the 16 gauge wire being used to bridge the 120-degree (ish) angle. It has not yet had Shoe Goo applied to it for a “cleaner” picture.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Cold Joint: Appears dull or cracked. Reheat and reapply the solder. (Do not blow to cool quicker)
  • Excess Solder: Use a desoldering pump or wick to remove it.
  • Oxidized Tip: Clean and re-tin the soldering iron regularly.

A good solder joint is shiny and smooth, without a sharp “peak”. Practice and take note of how long it takes to heat a pad to where it will melt solder. Just like when soldering 2 wires together, you want to heat the contact patch, and then dab the solder onto the pad/wires where it melts by contact with the pad, not the iron. Excess time on the pad could lead to the LEDs being exposed to too much heat and damage them (especially on thinner sk6812rgbw strips).

Addressable LED Information

  1. Addressable LEDs, as they’re formally known, go by many marketed names, for the most part, they all perform the same functions, with some distinct variables such as whether the led has a dedicated white chip (RGB vs RGBW). It’s important that your supplier (aka us) uses the highest quality components. The addressable industry came about less than 5 years ago, but leaps and bounds have been made in regard to chip quality. A few styles such as WS2811, and WS28212 have been around since the beginning and have been vastly outperformed in many aspects by others such as SK6812rgb(w), which is what we use for our 5V strips. Let’s not forget about important things such as chip count (typically expressed per meter), and fail-safes such as how we added extra resistors on everything strip to prevent voltage spikes from damaging the LEDs. Common Names for Addressable LEDs include; Neopixel, Colorflow, color flow, neoprism, chasing leds, automotive chasing leds.
  2. Addressable LEDs (the halos and strips themselves) have a small power drain even when off, regardless of the controller selected. If your car is driven daily, this should not affect you. If your car sits for a week+, consider installing a switch on the 12+ wire connecting to the battery (after the fuse).
  3. Addressable LEDs are sensitive to temperature, especially, say, a 150+ degree bulb. If you’d like to get the longest life possible out of your purchase, consider running your halos/strips only has a drl and have them turn off when your low beam is on.
