GT RGBW Rigid UCS2904 Chasing Strips
Pushing development even further, GTA Retrofits introduces these (semi) Rigid ICS2904 Chasing strips to the market. The thick PCB board allows for greater heat dissipation, which in turn allows for more power consumption and brighter output over our traditional 5V strips, over 70% more power! These RGBW Rigid UCS2904 Chasing Strips are 12v and do not require a step-down transformer.
The thicker PCB also allows for easier soldering. Gone are the days of risking tearing off the solder pad on the back of a flimsy ribbon, these give you something to push against. See the tabs above for our recommendations for soldering parts.
These strips are brighter than any 5v option, and can also be cut (every 3 LEDs) & soldered to size. Warranty will be honored on cut strips, however, pictures may be required before replacements are sent and will be mandatory for any soldered strips.
As seen in the product image, these boards have some backward flexibility, but cannot be twisted from side to side.
Compatible Controllers
Our Rigid Chasing Strips are currently only intended to be used with Blueghozt controllers, however, others may work. Please read below about the most advanced controller on the market.

Soldering Guide
Disclaimer: This is not a complete guide, some previous knowledge is required, YouTube University is free. Parts/Equipment
- A proper soldering station with temperature control is a must, we use this one by X-Tronic, available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B086624LXB/
- The “5 Extra Tips” is what we’re after, although they can be bought separately. We use the Bevel Tip as its larger surface area allows for quicker heat transfer.
- Ensure you also have soldering tip cleaner with rosin flux and continuously clean the tip when in use.
- Good solder (Bad solder will ruin your day). We use 2 different thickness solder. – Use max temp of 260c
- MG Chemicals Sn63/Pb37 (No 4865-227g) – 0.032″ Diameter, 22 Gauge, 2.2% Flux – https://a.co/d/09czWki
- We use this to “prep” a pad by tinning it (pre-apply a small amount of solder), to easily accept a connecting wire or in our case a piece of 16 gauge solder.
- MG Chemicals Sn60/Pb40 (No 4898-227g) – 0.065″ Diameter, 16 Gauge – 2.2% Flux – https://a.co/d/9K4pctl
- We use this to connect cut led strips where the distance is very small (under 1/2″)
- Warning: These both contain lead (Pb). It is important to use in a well-ventilated area at worst, with a forced air filter ideally
- Shoe Goo (Yes really) – https://a.co/d/e4qL7br
- Once you’ve tested all your connection (connect to controller, power on, test all colours), apply a small amount to all connections, especially those bridging any sort of gap to help with vibration. Let cure fully. This is also removable later if necessary for repair.
In our product picture above, you can see the 16 gauge wire being used to bridge the 120-degree (ish) angle. It has not yet had Shoe Goo applied to it for a “cleaner” picture.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- Cold Joint: Appears dull or cracked. Reheat and reapply the solder. (Do not blow to cool quicker)
- Excess Solder: Use a desoldering pump or wick to remove it.
- Oxidized Tip: Clean and re-tin the soldering iron regularly.
A good solder joint is shiny and smooth, without a sharp “peak”. Practice and take note of how long it takes to heat a pad to where it will melt solder. Just like when soldering 2 wires together, you want to heat the contact patch, and then dab the solder onto the pad/wires where it melts by contact with the pad, not the iron. Excess time on the pad could lead to the LEDs being exposed to too much heat and damage them (especially on thinner sk6812rgbw strips).
